About DPU
Establishment
Kütahya Academy of Economics and Administrative Sciences, which is the core of the Dumlupınar University of Kütahya, was founded on 12 October 1974 under the name of Kütahya School of Management within the body of Eskişehir Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences.
On December 4, 1974, the school started trainings in a building which belongs to Turkish Authoring Works Agency today. On February 15, 1979, the school took the name of Kütahya Management Sciences Faculty. On July 20, 1982, the institution was organized as the Kütahya School of Administrative Sciences of Anadolu University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. In 1987, it was renamed Kütahya Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
Kütahya Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Kütahya Vocational School were separated from Anadolu University on 11 July 1992 by law and the newly established Faculty of Science and Letters, Faculty of Engineering, Simav Technical Education Faculty, Bilecik Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Institute of Social Sciences and the Institute of Science were founded within Dumlupınar University.
The First Years
In the 1993-94 academic year; one year after the establishment, Tavşanlı and Gediz (districts of Kütahya) university vocational schools were opened with the decision of Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK). In 1994, vocational schools of Dumlupınar University were established in 10 districts of Kütahya and 4 districts of Bilecik.
The construction of Evliya Çelebi Campus, the largest and central campus of the university, began in 1995 and three years later the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Engineering, then the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences moved to this campus. The first rectorate building in the campus was organized as the dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
DPU in the 21st Century
In 1996, YÖK and within the framework of the protocol signed between the Ministry of Health, Kütahya Health Vocational High School was converted to Dumlupınar University School of Health.
In 1999, the Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Education and the School of Physical Education and Sports of the Dumlupınar University were established. In 2005 the Vocational School of Applied Sciences and in 2006 the Institute of Health Sciences opened at the university.
With the establishment of Bilecik University in 2007, Bilecik Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Bilecik Vocational Schools in Gölpazarı, Osmaneli, Pazaryeri and Söğüt districts were separated from Dumlupınar University and connected to Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University.
After the DPU Faculty of Medicine, which was established in 2007 and started education one year later, Simav Faculty of Dentistry was established in 2011 instead of Simav Technical Sciences Faculty which was closed in 2009. The Faculty of Dentistry was established in 2011, The Faculty of Theology and Architecture, Institute of Educational Sciences and Tavşanlı Tourism Management and Hotel Management and the School of Foreign Languages were established in 2012 under the rector of Dumlupınar University.
In 2018, with the law numbered 7141, which changed the name of our university to Kütahya Dumlupınar University, the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and the Institute of Health Sciences, Gediz Health Services Vocational School and Simav Health Services Vocational School were transferred to the newly established Kütahya Health Sciences University.
In 2019, Tavsanli School of Tourism and Hotel Management was turned into Tavsanli Faculty of Applied Sciences and the School of Applied Sciences was transformed into Kutahya Faculty of Applied Sciences.
